Mix all the ingredients well; the dough will be sticky. This recipe makes about 25 doughnuts. Sprinkle some flour on a board or plate and roll the dough into firm balls about the size of walnuts. The easiest way to portion the dough is to use a teaspoon.
Prepare the frying oil. If you have a deep fryer, fill it with oil and heat it to 170°C.
Alternatively, pour vegetable frying oil into a heavy-bottomed, deep skillet and heat it to 170°C. (you can check the temperature with a laser thermometer; if you don’t have one, drop a small cube of bread into the oil—it should turn golden in about 20 seconds).
Once the oil is heated, carefully place the prepared dough balls in it and fry them until golden brown.
Remove the doughnuts and place them on paper towels to absorb the excess oil. If desired, sprinkle the finished doughnuts with powdered sugar.
