Crack the egg into a flat-bottomed bowl, add milk, salt, and sugar, and beat with a fork.
Heat a frying pan with oil to high.
Take each piece of bread (you can use tongs) and quickly bathe it in the egg-milk mixture—place one side first, then the other, so that the entire piece is covered with the mixture. Do not let it sit in the bowl; fry immediately, otherwise, the bread will fall apart.
Place the toast in a frying pan and fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side (until nicely golden brown).
